Romanian born Andreea discovered photography at 15 which became a turning point in her artistic practise to date. After spending time learning the basics Andreea began to enjoy the experimental side of photography, one that does not follow precise rules, where the results are “unexpectedly beautiful and give birth to new approaches.” Her work mainly explores the relationship between history, memory and space with a focus on the destruction of the photographic material.
Elena-Andreea was chosen for the scholarship by Matthew Slotover, co-founder of Frieze and co-director of Frieze Art Fair – “through photography and film, Andreea explores spaces and places loaded with the history of her native Romania under Communism. We were very impressed by her clarity of purpose and the work’s coherence of presentation.”
